Fagus sylvatica purpurea or Copper Beech is a large deciduous beech tree grown for its deep purple leaves, which become reddish-copper in autumn. It has a pyramidal or rounded spreading crown. Small yellow-green flowers in spring are followed by bristly fruits (nuts) which ripen in autumn and are edible.
