Hornbeam – Carpinus betulus

Large tree with fluted trunk, excellent for hedging.

Very similar to Beech in appearance. It has bright green leaves which turn brown and mostly remain on twigs during the winter. It is bushy and well branched. It likes heavy soil and will tolerate damp conditions.
