Gooseberry- Captivator
£7.99
Freshly dug plants cold-stored for freshness. Minimum 2 stem bare-root bush ready for planting.
Gooseberry Captivator is a strong, healthy growing variety which produces good crops of sweet burgundy fruits in late July. Captivator is suitable for all culinary uses and sweet enough to eat straight off the bush if you enjoy the taste of tart fruit. Very easy to grow and can also be grown in pots. Virtually spine free, with a vigorous spreading habit. Mildew resistant.
Incorporate organic matter before planting and feed in the spring with high potash plant food, such as tomato fertiliser.
Prune back old growth after fruiting in August. Aim to prune bushes into a ‘wine glass’ shape. This will ensure lots of air and light reaches the fruit, thus reducing the possibility of mildew and encouraging fruit ripening.
